About Us
The United Martial Artist Academy has taken many forms as a school over the years. Originally established in 1972 under previous ownership, we were one of the first Martial Arts schools in the Monmouth County teaching students of all ages! While the original Martial Art styles including Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, and Kobudo weapons, the school's original style was based off Kardojitsu Ryu which was considered one of the first American Mixed Martial Arts styles. Continuing forward our school shifted towards an Americanized aspect of Goju-Ryu.
Gōjū-ryū, Japanese for "hard-soft style", is one of the main traditional Okinawan styles of karate, featuring a combination of hard and soft techniques. In recent years we have returned to traditional roots and now focus on an Okinawan Karate/Goju Ryu curriculum. More specifically, Okinawan Goju Ryu Kenkyukai. |
